Arthritis Hip Pain
Angela is an architect. She is a hyper-active person and you will never find her sitting idle. Her children and work keep her busy and she enjoys this. But for the past few days, Angela has been experiencing a niggling pain in her groin. Angela has also noticed that she experiences hip pain while resting at night.
Well, if your experiences match those experienced by Angela, then you might be suffering from hip joint pain.
As the name suggest, hip joint pain is the pain that is felt in hip joint or the adjoining areas. But sometimes, one may feel the pain in middle thigh region or in the groin. Similarly, sometimes a lower back pain may be categorized as hip joint pain.
Causes of hip pain:
Pain in the hip joint can be caused by a number of factors. But, one should remember that sometimes certain congenital defects could also lead to hip joint pain.
Medical practitioners have listed out some of the major reasons behind hip pain. These are:
- Congenital Dislocation of the Hip [CDH]: The hip is a ball and socket joint that attaches the femur or the thighbone with the pelvis. In a person diagnosed with CDH, the ball is not attached to the socket in a proper manner. This ill fitting destabilizes the hip joint and makes it more vulnerable to dislocation. In some cases, hip joint pain can be directly attributed to CDH. If this condition is diagnosed during infancy, splinters can be used to put the hip in proper place. However, diagnosis in adulthood might necessitate the need to go in for surgery.
- Congenital Hip Dysplasia: Your hip may appear to be in a proper position, but a careful examination may reveal that the ball is seating on the edge of the socket and does not fits perfectly in the socket. People suffering from CHD may also have a strange walking style and their legs may not be of equal length.
-
Tendonitis:
If there is an inflammation of the tendons surrounding the hip joint, it might lead to hip pain.
- Trochanteric bursitis: Inflammation of the bursa located just outside the hip joint can trigger joint pain in the hip.
- Osteonecrosis: Supply of sufficient amount of blood to the bones is vital. Bones derive nutrients and other supplies that are important for its survival from the blood that reaches it. Insufficient supply automatically signals the death of a bone. The head of the femur is the most vulnerable to Osteonecrosis. If vessels near the hip region are torn due to the breakage of the hip, it might automatically translate into less supply to the head of the femur, which might ultimately cause its collapse.
- Strain: Any strain on the muscles present near the hip and pelvis might cause pain in the hip joint.
- Arthritis: Many medical practitioners state that arthritis is one of the major causes of hip joint pain. Some of the common types of arthritis hip pain include:
-
Osteoarthritis:
This is a medical term used to describe a condition where the cartilages present in a joint start to tear away. When they completely tear down, the bones in a joint start rubbing against each other and this might result in arthritis hip pain.
-
Rheumatoid Arthritis:
When the immune system starts attacking its own tissues and cells, doctors term it as rheumatoid arthritis. This ailment can destroy the cartilages present in one’s hip.
Treatment for hip pain:
Treatments for hip joint pain include taking of medications as well as taking care of the affected region. Natural remedies may also be helpful depending on the cause of the pain.
In most cases, doctors recommend that a person suffering from hip pain should avoid indulging in exercises that are likely to aggravate the pain and avoid sleeping on the side that is paining. However, moderate exercise or stretching is often helpful.
- Medications: Those who sufferer from hip and joint pain are sometimes administered with Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory pain medications like Ibuprofen, acetaminophen etc to relieve pain and inflammation of the hips.
- Sessions with physiotherapists: Doctors often recommend their patients to undergo physiotherapy under the guidance of an expert to strengthen the affected part.
- A nutritional supplement containing a high potency of quality
glucosamine, MSM and ipriflavone
